[SBU Board] My attitude about lunches is mixed

Hi All:
My feeling is that Hospitality/Romeo have put a big effort into lunches for the Swiss day, but that never seems to work out well. Long lines, marginal food, mess, etc..
We have good lists and maps for Bothell eateries, but maybe we need to more for the Kent and Vasa (if we go there) venues.
Ann is on the right track with the picnic idea. I personally like to bring my lunch and relax between sessions, but maybe that is my age showing.
If we ever use a venue where there is a real shortage of places to eat out, we might reconsider, but I suggest we forget about providing lunch.

When we have no refrigeration, it is best NOT to do lunches. If we have refrigeration, then it is doable. but not optimal.
Personally, I'd rather not do them--it adds time, expense and a lot of planning to the process of a sectional. BUT, they can be done. We can always get trays of sandwiches from Costco and pull together a salad. Or sandwiches from Subway (but folks complain about these over time).
We have tried catering in the past. It's expensive, but doable. Caterers will want access to water, at least, to clean up. Bothell is not good for catering. Vasa works well.
We could get a food truck, but again, the cost will go up, and there will be logistical issues to work through. All possible.
When a venue is not near restaurants, we may want to provide this type of option. BUT...again, without refrigeration, or a kitchen, hard to prepare salads, hard to clean up, hard to store things.
SO. Short term, I'd rather not do lunches. If we train our folk to bring their own lunch (have a picnic with your team...!), or give them enough time for a fast food option, great.
We will need to come up with a list of spots near the venue, and have good maps and lots of copies to pass out.
romeo out.
