I really cant say if that was the problem or not. After the reformat, today I
plugged it into my linux laptop and the usb device would not mount. So I went
the easy way and used the auto.master(enable auto.misc) and auto.misc
(add the line: removable -fstype=vfat :/dev/sda) files in /etc. Now it auto
mounts and when I delete a file there is no hidden trash file made and I get
all the disk space back. I can only say it must have had something to do with
the original formatting of the device. Maybe a real vfat vs the 'newer' fat32
I reformatted it to. I dunno but all is now OK.

Thanks: James and CMR

Just an aside. It is fsking crap like this that stops the further inroads we all
wish linux would make with the average clueless windblows heads. I've been using
Linux since Debian Hamm, manage to write probably the finest set of weather scripts
available (free or $$$), which BTW I am in the process of OpenSourcing at sourceForge
(http://weather4php.sourceforge.net)[shameless plug][[ask and I'll gz the whole mess
for you]]. Yet I felt the need to yell for help with this issue. It was just some
wasted time(well maybe I did learn something) for me, but most likely a kill stopper
for a newer linux user. No matter the fault of formatting or whatever this should
never have reared its ugly little head.
GRRRRR...end rant....

Thanks
Ronnie
