I can't help with the original problem, Ronnie, but your rant is right
on the mark. Even folks in Ubuntu land spend more time fiddling with
eye candy crap that with making the system functional for
less-than-guru users. And don't get me started on the Distros (Debian
Testing and Gentoo are probably the only exceptions) that think
starting over from scratch with a new install each release is a good
idea (NOT).
