I have a supermicro MB with the ICH7, 82801G chipset as well. The main
problem I has with SUSE 10.1 was related to power. I had to add acpi=off
to the command line. Did you have the same issue? 

I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.17.7-smp so I could get the SATA hotplug
stuff to work. Now it works great.

I can't say anything about the wireless. My 2200BG worked out of the
box.

Given intel's support for Linux, I am surprised that there is not better
kernel support for these chipsets.
