I wound up with a custome 2.6.17.13 kernel to get my laptop
to work.

Only way to even remotely consider the 3956ABG is to install
some weird stand alone driver, but since I am wired at the house
it was not worth it ...

FWIW, Kernel 2.6.18-RC7 WORKS on the sata and the E1000 NIC and USB
and everthing else EXCEPT for the Marvell IDE controller. I might go
find me a SATA DVD burner and stick in the machine, since I want to
switch backups to DVD media instead of 4MM tapes ...
