I've seen far too many legitimate e-mails come in from non-subscriber
addresses to want to do this. Often this is because malware like OutLook
does funny things with the From: headers, people are posting from home,
etc. One of the options the list admin has when messages are posted by a
legitimate member from an address other than subscribed one is to tell
Mailman to always accept from that address.

This type of message will sit in the Mailman queue until an admin can do
something with it, and the sender receives a message saying that their
message is being held since they're not a subscriber.

Mailman also allows assigning moderator duties to one or more e-mail
accounts in addition to the administrator to spread the load and provide
better coverage.
