OK so here I am re-installing my box with Ubuntu Dapper and I'm noticing
that web browsing performance is incredibly slow. So I immediately blame
Ubuntu and do a google to get some ammunition to back my suspicions.
Which I find in the form of a FAQ that mentions that ipv6 can slow down
the networking on the box. So I disable ipv6 and reboot... and nothing
it's still slow.
So off to google once more where I go for the more generic why is my dns
taking so long to resolve. and the answer is simple.
My ISPs DNS response times
DNS1
dig @220.233.0.4 www.2test.com
REPLY_DNS1_1 connection timed out; no servers could be reached
REPLY_DNS1_2 Query time: 1832 msec
DNS2
dig @220.233.0.3 www.2test.com
REPLY_DNS2_1 Query time: 33 msec
REPLY_DNS2_2 Query time: 34 msec
So in the end my assumption is incorrect my new Ubuntu box is fine. It's
the ISP DNS1 that is porked.
So after a judicious editing of the /etc/resolv.conf I'm fine
You know what they say when you Assume you make an ASS out of U and ME
