Well, our county school systems are financially rewarded for producing
great test takers, instead of functioning human beings.
I am not for any one major religion taking over schools, but
Spirituality with regards how we view other human beings could certainly
be taught. You cannot harm another until you objectify them first... as
a trophy, a label, or anything else other than a full functioning human
being with inherent rights as a product of Creation and possessing a
personal piece of the Universe as part of a greater whole... the same as
anyone else.
Add a personal sense of Purpose that is combined with personal unique
talents, and that is about the entire process I wish to employ, with a
lot of testing thrown in for good measure to establish baselines to the
data. Along with Anger Management, Stress Technique, Assertiveness,
stuff like that, usually employed in the traditional 12 step process, is
stirred in.
There's plenty of Religion to go around in this world, but it's like
putting lipstick on a pig, if the basic rules of humanity are not
instilled into the core being of everyone. So, no religious debate from
me, just getting the basic "share your toys and don't hit each other"...
"Things I learned in Kindergarden" stuff into the curriculum will be one
helluva start.

Just follow the money, Bill. Just follow the money. I have and it's
shocking what both parties are doing to and with our liberties. You have
basically none now, mostly thanks to the four horsemen, Senior, Junior,
and Jeb. If you were locked up tomorrow and actually innocent, your
right to Habeas Corpus (see: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15220450/ )
is effectively gone. You have 6 months, once locked up, to produce a
"perfected" writ... meaning with NO flaws. Guess what? Senior did that
bit back when he was in office under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Twenty
years ago?
On MSNBC last night one inmate had 14 1/2 tatoo'd on his neck. It was
explained that it stood for 12 jurors, 1 judge, 1 D.A. and a half-assed
lawyer! <grins> Try to get a "perfected writ" when your lawyer figures
you'll not be paying your bill to make him pay attention anymore.
The war on drugs has effectively removed the constraints to seize your
property. Some war, we're all getting shot at. One guy told me that he
KNEW he was innocent and framed. He readily admitted to being a coke
dealer, so the PCP that was hidden in his brand new expensive boat was a
frame-up. His Deputy Sheriff neighbor, who coveted the boat, soon had it
parked in his driveway when it went to auction and the owner went to
prison. Same Sheriff Dept. that started the trend to the pink cells and
crying Teddy Bears on the walls. Everyone thought the inmates had it
coming, until the Sheriff was indicted for racketeering, here in N.C.
Like following the money, follow the abusers... of all stripes...
especially the politicians who run for office citing the War on Crime as
a new program. We've treated each other like animals for a long time, it
ain't nothing new. As you mentioned, more expensive prisons and more
jobs in the poor counties that need them.
Check this, take some bumpkis county with the jobs leaving in droves.
Build a 1,000 man Super Max, and you have 1,000 men "living" in that
county who are counted for the census and the redistricting maps for
voting purposes, even though they cannot vote. Nice, huh? Improve the
local water and sewage plant, with federal dollars, to serve that
facility as well. Pay too much for the site. The list goes on and on.
I'll probably get shot if my program works. And, I think it will. I just
need some really decent game programmers or someone that can take an
existing game and modify it to pull and display streams of video content
during certain game play events or proximity to a location. I've gotten
interest from the N.C.D.O.C., who are pretty progressive. This'll be the
carrot to the stick of my presentation to the inmates coming up. It's
for them to change the world by staying free of abusive behavior, once
they have changed themselves... and they are the experts at doing that.
Me? I'm gonna have a whopping GOOD TIME! <chuckles> I'm not only the
Founder, I'm a client! So is everyone else, too. We can all have a ball.
I want to get it up and running for a Proof-Of-Concept before M$ gets
wind that there are millions of potential clients out there for a new
application. Open Source, you betcha. Ric
