Probably because mount and smbmount are simply tools for the Kernel
Driver for SMBFS (like iptables is a tool for NetFilter).  This is all
new to me too, so I'm not ripping on you.

They probably *should* document that in the tool documentation, under
specifics for the SMBFS fs-type.

I'm not sure who to contact, but I've included a couple of the Samba
team members since their mailing list link is broken.  Hopefully they
can route it to the right people.
