You may have a candidate for a K6-III+ up-braining; take a look at

I put a K6-III+ 400 mHz, overclocked to 500 mHz*, in an old Compaq 
Presario with a K6-2 350.
If your new find is a Compaq, a BIOS flash upgrade may be needed.

* I could jumper it up to 550 mHz, but I am using the original passive 
heatsink, which is adequate.
