cups printing slow - page by page

First off, are you sure it's the cups system that's slowing things down? Both 
OOo & Mozilla have their own print drivers. But, as dep said, it's probably 
the driver that's being used. Sounds as if the output being generated is a 
binary image, rather than text, which will take the printer much longer to 
process.
