KDE cd and dvd player help

I recently lost my Caldera 3.1.1 WS and decided to go with gentoo for a time. 
  I still use KDE.  I logged out before I shut down the kscd program and now 
all the users say the application is already running.  I can't find the lock 
file.  Does anyone know where it is?

I am trying to get DVD player software working.  I can play some DVD's as root 
using xine but I don't get the control panel as a mortal user.  Also mortal 
users get errors about not having dxr3.  (What is it and why do I need it?) 
And looking for /dev/em8300-0.  (Same question.)  [I actually tried to find 
this but it wanted to recompile my kernel, then I would need to recompile 
alsa, an I am not sure that would be the end.]
