Historically, SuSE limited installation support to the "Default Desktop"
installation option. That is, if you chose other options, they didn't have
to provide support. This forced the user to choose between support and a
lean machine. I didn't notice whether this is still true with SUSE 9.0.
SUSE 9.0 (fyi - the "U" is officially uppercase now) has been enjoyable. KDE
seems to load a little faster than previous versions. They added more cute
games that are appropriate for little kids, including myself. Midnight
Commander is, finally, installed by default. Also, you can install the
proprietary nVidia driver via the online update quite easily; but do so
separately, after you've updated kernel stuff.
One application that I'd like to see them add is msmtp. It allows me to send
mail via my Earthlink account regardless of whose service I'm using at the
moment. Kmail has this capability; but msmtp plugs into mutt, which is nice
when I'm at the command line.
