Have you tried krusader as an alternative to mc? It is an 'old school'
file system browser that is immediately recognizable to nc/mc users. But
it is still hooked into KDE. It even uses the same navigation and
function key assignments. And it adds tabs to the file views. Really
nice. Yet familiar.

Too bad my SVR5 Norton Utilities do not run under Linux. Especially the
Norton SVR5 unerase.
