None required. I just got sick of having Gentoo make me feel stupid :\
Heck, I think I'll do this method next time I build Gentoo. Not
configuring the Kernel cuts my own involvement with the build in half! :
# cp -ax /boot/* /mnt/gentoo/boot/
# mkdir -p /mnt/gentoo/lib/modules/
# cp -ax /lib/modules/2* /mnt/gentoo/boot/lib/modules/
I'll go back and rebuild later. (in fact, that's what's happening as I
type. I almost wrote this from that machine. I got KDE to install, and
after some dinkin' I got a working xorg.conf file up (although I found
it keenly interesting that without a config file X still works. That's
not a bad thing).
Configured Kontact to access my IMAP server back home and we were up and
running. I was reading a little about Portage, LVM2(on Gentoo), and
have been seeking the X HOW-TO document in case I missed any trinkets.
Now I just have to figure out what I want and how to get it. As opposed
to the ADD method of meandering through the menus to find what works for
me.
The surprising thing is this:
toto root # df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc7 16879888 2947712 13074712 19% /
none 192056 0 192056 0% /dev/shm
toto root #
I guess I'm shocked that with such a barebones install (so far, it seems
like it) that I'm using 3gb of HD space! Perhaps there is an emerge
command that deletes the sources and temp files that I'm missing.
Thanks for your support, nonetheless. I'll allow the snide remark to
slide :) *BUT THEY SAID IT WOULD BUILD THE KERNEL JUST LIKE THE LIVECD!*

| Just a single snide remark. I've never found genkernel to be worth a

| quickly.
|
| Who needs a kernel with every module in the world? I could get that
| with any other distro. OTOH, sometimes genkernel "just works".
|
| Ah well, welcome to gentoo.
