Are you ising the NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries? They seem to
hold a charge better than standard Alkalines (YMMV)

Does any digital camera? I've yet to see one. But I'll tell you that
the Fujifilm camera my graphic-artist-friend owns is a lot better in the
dark than my Mustek :)

This is a common problem for any USB-mass-storage camera, or anything
you can yank out the SD/CF/etc.. card and mount it as a drive. I always
end up creating a new directory for each set of pix anyway. That helps
me find what I want over time (I have several hunderd MB worth of jpg's)
