: Does any digital camera? I've yet to see one. But I'll tell you that
: the Fujifilm camera my graphic-artist-friend owns is a lot better in the
: dark than my Mustek :)
Some do better than others. I just recently bought the Canon S1 IS, and
the settings on there let you do some really cool things.
Here's 2 shots taken one right after another, for comparison. The first
one is regular exposure, the second was with a longer shutter exposure.
It's shaky because my hand is... can't fault the camera for that. But
the difference in light quality ought to be a good indicator.

Oh, the second one is cropped a little, because the moon shake was
too much on the left. Without it, I kinda liked the picture.
: | - No interchangeable lenses (probably not an issue at this price point)
: True. Find me one under $1k
Mine can do a few different lenses, but is somewhat limited. It was
$350. The Canon digital Rebel has a much more flexible lense setup,
but is between $800 and $900. I think there is one from Nokia in the
same price range as well, but I'm not sure.
: | - Filenames are always the same, so you'll need to rename the files when
: | downloading them from the camera so they don't conflict with the last set.
: This is a common problem for any USB-mass-storage camera, or anything
: you can yank out the SD/CF/etc.. card and mount it as a drive. I always
: end up creating a new directory for each set of pix anyway. That helps
: me find what I want over time (I have several hunderd MB worth of jpg's)
That's not configurable? I know I can set mine to not reset when the
media is removed, so the numbers go up sequentially from when the camera
is first turned on.
