SCO printing to HP 4014N from filePro

Nancy,

Here is some additional information I sent to Ray Hoover when he
responded to this inquiry. He thought I may be having trouble doing
automatic tray selection from within filePro. That isn't the case. In
effect, I am manually selecting the tray. Here is what I sent to him:

I'm using the HPLaserJet interface that I've been using at that location
for probably 15 years. The new printer is at the same IP address as the
previous one.

It isn't a problem selecting trays - if Tray 1 (the drop down 'manual
feed' tray) has paper in it, the printer will print from that tray and
that is fine. However, if Tray 1 has no paper, the printer uses the
main paper tray (Tray 2). When I print to the printer and Tray 2 is the
destination (because Tray 1 is empty) all filePro formatting is lost.
It doesn't print the Escape sequences on the paper, as we have all seen
under certain circumstances, it simply ignores them.

I'm not issuing any tray selection print codes at all. Under normal
circumstances this printer only has one 'real' tray.

It is a real mystery to me how this can possibly happen. I mean, why
would the tray the printer is using make any possible difference to
whether the formatting escape sequences are used or not?

Steve

Steve,

I do know that filePro does not have any PCL6 codes and they are very
different from PCL5.

I also know that you have many hands in the pot when you are printing
through a print server.

You have filepro, then the Unix interface, then the print server, then
the printer setup.

Any of these things can give us fits.

1) lp command should have -o"raw" to tell the interface not to help.
This works with most laser interfaces.

Try that. Then you need to try to work the job with as few hands as
possible. It seems that the door must change settings somehow. Not sure

about that.

Nancy
