To give a little more detail on what Ann is mentioning, a few years back
(2019 IIRC), there was one of these Sectionals at Sea leaving from Seattle
that conflicted with the Lynnwood regional. Whoever was running it blasted
an email blast at everyone in our unit. We got two emails from members
that were confused as to why we were running a sectional at sea and one
email from a member that was upset that we had put a sectional on top of
the regional.
This was at a point when units, districts, and national were all sending
emails via the same system (Pianola), and the templates the ACBL provided
did not allow for much customization. That is, I don't think that the "at
sea" program did anything untoward so much as that the templates and system
made it difficult for members to distinguish who emails were actually
coming from (and the email itself wasn't explicit), and most members don't
understand the processes around tournaments enough to inherently know that
these for-profit events differ from what the units/districts run.
