Dear D19 board members,

I have had a few questions from interested people about credit card sales,
and also about fee increases for tournament sanctions and directors.

 

I am writing to share the information I have collected with you. 

 

First of all, fees for regional and sectional tournaments will be increased
by 6% effective April 1, 2020.

 

Tournament director fees will increase effective April 1, 2020. These
increases are about 11.25%, and represent the first increase in four years.
Here are the new rates: National Director: $240.00,  Associate National
Director  $227.00,  Tournament Director $210.00,  Associate Tournament
Director $180.00,  Local Tournament Director $135.00. I am told that even at
these rates,  local sponsors are not covering the real cost of the directing
staff to the ACBL, and Horn Lake is reportedly working on cost saving
measures to try to close this gap.


There will be no charges to tournaments for the credit card fees charged for
users of Square. The directors will carry little Square gadgets to the
tournaments that will enable players to pay for an entry with a credit card.
They are quick, easy, and will not require any additional staffing,
especially once everyone is used to using this method of payment. Square
Canada is being set up now, though I don't have any information on when that
will be available. 


All cash collected at a tournament will go to the sponsors, as before. The
cash should be enough to cover immediate expenses, such as caddies. The
money collected by credit card will go towards paying the ACBL invoice, and
the tournament sponsor will receive a complete daily accounting. I am told
that most tournament players are expected to continue to pay cash, at least
in the immediate future.
