FWIW: for the tournament I was a chair of last year I got a call from
someone who was curious about stuff but wasn't comfortable with email
and had questions about the tournament. This was a week or two before
the tournament. I'm not actually sure how they got my phone # but I was
glad they were able to call me.

Not sure what a good solution is as the spam risk is real. I was less
careful with my # when I first moved to Seattle and had years of getting
calls from recruiters (usually from India) 2-3 times a week.
