[SBU Board] Fwd: 2019 D19 NAP Finals

Possibly, but not necessarily. The Seattle area presents a challenge for an available, affordable Saturday-Sunday site for NAP or GNT Finals. Among other things, both SBC and EBC have flagship Saturday club games. Doing a standalone site, like Bothell, has not worked well for such a small event.

As with the search for U446 sectional sites, the landscape for prospective D19 GNT and NAP Finals sites shifts. Learning takes place from year to year as scheduling calendars, facilities’ situations and plans for the events themselves evolve. For me, first order factors in siting the GNTs and NAP Finals are (not necessarily in priority order): higher levels of participation, a measure of equity in use of BC/WA sites, financials, and logistics.

The Skagit PUD in Mount Vernon emerged as a result of an extensive survey of prospective sites within the Vancouver-Seattle corridor. I expect we will return there, however it is not ideal in all ways. There has also been a bit of clamor for siting in Vancouver itself. Then there is the consideration of members in Eastern BC, Eastern WA and Alaska. We do occasionally have D19 NAP and GNT Finals participants from these more far flung areas of D19 — a much more difficult trip than for those in Vancouver or Seattle to a site along the Vancouver-Seattle corridor.

Attractive facility and equipment general fee schedules have been worked out with the East Delta Hall facility and the Duplicate Lite Bridge Club in Delta, BC. I’m eager to site the Finals in BC in 2019 as in 2018 the finals of all three flights were held in WA.

I would like to ask you to please check the following candidate weekends and advise of their viability for sanctioning and DiC staffing:
