[SBU Board] Vasa Survey and Plan Forward

This afternoon a survey team comprised of Ann, Larry (and Mimi), David, John and I visited Vasa Park.  While the entire exterior has been updated, we were disappointed to find that nothing has yet been done with the lighting or restrooms.  Plan for the lighting is to replace the fixtures and install LED bulbs.  We requested they maximize the lumens available for the wattage capacity.  They had no plan to share concerning the restrooms; this is something to follow up on going forward.  They have been focusing on getting the exterior portion of the renovation completed.  That effort has taken about 3 months longer than planned, delaying progress on the interior.  We didn't take any pics as the interior is little changed except for new windows, which might help with draftiness.

After surveying the facility and talking with Susie the manger, our team discussed findings and the plan going forward.  Before committing to a tournament at Vasa, we would like to visit the facility again, especially to check the lighting and restrooms.  Accordingly, we opted for Bothell as the site of the Halloween Sectional in 2017.  Ann notified Susie that we will not be going to Vasa for our October dates and that we would like to check on Vasa's availability for our February 2018 Sweetheart Sectional dates.

Actions going forward (let's status progress on these during our April 6 board meeting):

Tim:  Alert Beverly at Bothell that we are now firm for Oct 27-29, 2017.

David:  Revise our 2017 fall sectional sanction from Sept 15-17 at Kent to Oct 27-29 at Bothell.

Ann:  Coordinate with Susie to determine availability of Vasa for Feb 16-18, 2018.  If available, have Susie hold the facility for us while we consider options and plans for our 2018 Sweetheart Sectional.

Ann:  Continue to encourage Susie to establish and implement a plan to update the restrooms, as this is important to our players.  Schedule a follow-on survey of Vasa in the coming months when there has been progress on the interior.  

John:  Check with Doug at Kent Commons on availability of, and price for, the West Gym for Feb 16-18, 2018.  
 
Tim:  Continue to periodically check with Beverly at Bothell to understand if their board's approval of the 2018 training schedule might take place in a time frame that would allow sufficient lead time for Bothell to be a candidate venue for Feb 16-18, 2018.

John:  Check with Jewish Day School in Bellevue on facility pricing, gym dimensions, and Friday/Saturday/Sunday availability as a potential site for a future NLM or open sectional.
