[SBU Board] Two Items

1.  I've been informed that a group of long-time unit members, including one who is a past recipient of the award, is working on a request that the board nominate Barbara Nist for the ACBL's Aileen Osofsky Goodwill Member of the Year award.  (For info, below are links to the online nomination form and a listing of past recipients.)  These folks are assembling material to support a nomination and intend to forward to me so it can be considered by the board during our September board meeting and, if the board concurs, used in submittal of a nomination.

2.  This past Monday evening, during discussion of harmonizing with clubs, I handed out a sheet with information about the extent to which sessions of tournaments run by U446, D19, and other units coincide with sessions run by Seattle area clubs.  A soft copy is attached for your reference.  The outlined boxes on the right show (a) absolute values of the number coincident sessions in a year and (b) a discounted weighting of coincident sessions based on estimates of attendance relative to attendance at U446 sectionals.  The idea is not to precisely quantify how clubs' games are cannibalized by various tournaments, but rather to offer a general view of areas of coincidence and the degree to which U446 sectionals appear to be the primary source of coincidence.
