All equipment has a useful life. In the past we have used a rotation system where older equipment was used only as needed in an emergency.
It is actually easier to inspect equipment at setup on friday and remove all failing tables especially since we do not max out on friday. Caddies can be utilized to inspect bidding boxes to give us a baseline for equipment replacement.

Subject: [SBU Board] Unit Equipment Replacement
Some of our equipment is in very bad shape. I'm thinking especially of tables with wobbly legs and bidding boxes with delaminated bidding cards. These items are annoying to our players and in the case of tables could present a hazard.
I suggest we consider addressing this issue this year. A simple way to begin would be to in some way mark tables and bidding boxes that are in need of replacement. This could be done by putting a piece of colored tape around a leg of such tables (during set up) and on the side of such bidding boxes (in the course of the tournament). A few extra minutes during a tear down would allow us to take an inventory of how many items had been marked for replacement. We could then order the appropriate quantities of replacements and discard the bad equipment as soon as the new arrives. In the case of bidding boxes, it might be that some of the boxes are OK but the cards therein are shot; perhaps we could explore replacing just the cards in these cases.
If there's any interest in this, I could bring a roll of blue masking tape to Vasa and we could begin the process this weekend.
Comments?
Thanks,
Tim
