Further thoughts...

#3 is unattractive to me for two reasons: (1) I agree with the comment that we should have twelve board members (during 2016) since that is what the Bylaws specify, and (2) if we were to go down the path of electing five board members a year from now, how would it be determined which four of those elected get three year terms and which one gets only a two year term -- and, given that only three candidates declared  this time, there is no assurance there would be five declaring next time.

I agree with DT. It seems to me that we won’t have a vacant spot until the new board members join us. So, by a technicality, #2 makes the most sense to me.
That being said, I don’t personally care how we get the 12th board member, but I am definitely on the side of having 12 members.

I can't say that I've reviewed the by-laws but my sense was that #2 was closest to adhering to them.  I personally like Tim's blended suggestion.
