External modem

External serial modems seem to be going the way of the dodo (and are way too
expensive anyway). So I started looking for a replacement.
Eventually discovered the US Robotics USR5637. It is a USB modem with an actual
built-in controller. Advertised to work on Linux and indeed I plugged it into
my Ubuntu server and it was immediately installed as /dev/ttyACM0. Zero effort.
And seems to work great.
Got mine from eBay for $33 NIB.
Just thought this might be useful.
