I humbly disagree with the single distro idea - which one would you pick?

IIRC, the focus way back on the initial list was both RedHat and Caldera 
distros (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), and we were discussing UNIX 
concepts as applied to a UNIX-like OS, and that IMHO should still apply. 
Caldera was, at the time, a desktop layer on RH 2.0. They later bought out 
the LST folks in Germany, and created later versions based on their distro.

Today, most distros are trying to differentiate themselves for some 
perceived need (*buntu, RHEL, etc.), not to mention the KDE vs. GNOME vs. 
UNITY stuff, but at the heart of it, it's still UNIX-like, so let's stick 
to the concepts rather than the distro.

We'll have IPv6 stuff coming up, DNSSec, Opensuse (optional) and Fedora 
(definite?) are moving to Systemd instead of SysVinit, so we will have a 
lot to discuss around a common thread. There is a lot of diversity here, so 
keep the info flowing. It sure beats the hell out of Googling a 
0xFFFFFADF50EC32A8 error in Windoze.

I very much liked a lot of the <OT> stuff too!
