I'm using the book "Windows PowerShell Unleashed" (Tyson Kopczynski,
SAMS), and it covers my areas of interest pretty well.

Except for the aforementioned "terminal deficiencies", PS is not a bad
language. Our company is totally Windows centric, but we do maintain a
large set of Linux servers and desktop boxes for the development of
product (settop boxes for the satellite/cable TV industry - all of
these use imbedded Linux). The authentication and DNS repository for
the company will be AD based, so I will need scripts that
reference/manipulate various AD components. One positive sign - PS
does have a secured, certificate based interface for remote access!

The other "exciting/frustrating" component of my project is the
conversion of my existing administrative scripts (MySQL/PHP) to an
Oracle APEX (Application Express) environment. APEX is easy to use for
setting up web applications that are tabled based. Once you've grokked
the design philosophy (not simple and not totally documented), it's a
good productivity tool for the Oracle environment. The tough part will
be integrating with external scripts (base APEX only really talks to
javascript and plsql). Fortunately javascript support includes jquery
support, so that will make things a little easier.

Sigh! Who'd a thunk it? At this point, I'm learning more than I ever
wanted to know about the Windows server environment.
