GRUB Hard Disk Error

Linux Community,

I've noticed that many of you are disappointed at the lack of traffic
within the community. Well, my request may help spice things up.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Toshiba Qosmio Laptop. I am a
newbie to the Linux world, so I need as much help as I can get. This
seems to be an old problem. I found incidents as far back as 3 years
ago. I also installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Sony notebook laptop without any
trouble.

While I'm asking for help, can somebody tell me how to reduce photo
pixal sizes from (3072 x 2304) down to (640 x 480) within the computer.
I was able to do it when I had Windows XP loaded on my Sony. I needed to
downsize my photos to display them on Craigslist.
