I am using Thunderbird 3.0 which allows to set up multiple outgoing mail 
servers. You can add more outgoing smtp servers in the Account Settings 
  - Outgoing Server. Then you can assign  user accounts to different 
outgoing mail servers by selecting the option Outgoing server under each 
account.

I think Thunderbird before 3.0 also allows this feature, although I do 
not remember which version started allowing you to do this.
