I haven't run the latest and greatest of any of this combination, but
we've used VMPlayer on RHEL4 systems with WIN/XP fairly successfully.
The key to happiness with any virtual setup is lots of memory.
I'm really surprised that disk accesses are slow. In many cases,
virtual I/O can be even faster than real I/O.
And yes, there is no charge for VMPlayer.
