Converting to Ubuntu

The installation was painless except it didn't find my old linux
installation of a different hard drive. It should have.
Well, so far so good. I am got Ubuntu to be my print server for my
windows client and my mail client without too much difficulty. Thank
gawd for unix style configuration files. Transferring the old
information to the new system wasn't bad. I shudder to think some idiot
might try to get rid of old fashioned text configuration files someday.
I feel bad I don't know a thing about cups. I really did like lprng.
But, it works.
I will miss mutt but evolution seems more civilized!
I guess I will stick to Gnome for now. If the stuff is working, I am
loath to change anything.
This is my first real upgrade in about 5-7 years. Amazingly, things
aren't going too badly.
No telling how insecure my new system is, but, I'll look into iptables
soon!
I spent 1/2 the day doing this, just so I could finally get flash
working. Flash worked fine with this upgrade to Ubuntu, but now I have
to spend the time getting everything else reconfigured.

I mainly use Mandriva (and am getting used to KDE4) and have one Ubuntu machine. I find Gnome on the Ubuntu machine flat feeling. KDE to me just seems richer. I use KDE on an Aspire One with SSD and 512 Mb ram, as well as on a Norhtec Microclient Sr running off a CF card with 512 Mb ram. It's a bit slow on the Microclient, but not too bad IMHO. I had expected KDE to be way too heavy for the Microclient.
