If it is a primary computer and you are happy with KDE I would suggest using Kubuntu. Why install KDE on Ubuntu when Kubuntu does it for you? I mainly use Mandriva (and am getting used to KDE4) and have one Ubuntu machine. I find Gnome on the Ubuntu machine flat feeling. KDE to me just seems richer. I use KDE on an Aspire One with SSD and 512 Mb ram, as well as on a Norhtec Microclient Sr running off a CF card with 512 Mb ram. It's a bit slow on the Microclient, but not too bad IMHO. I had expected KDE to be way too heavy for the Microclient.
