Lost virtual terminals

After replacing my video card, I have no access to the virtual terminals 1 to 6.
The key combination <Ctrl><Alt><Fn 1-6> blanks the screen and after a few
seconds the monitor displays a "power save" banner then the monitor sleeps with
the power indicator doing a slow blink. A <Ctrl><Alt><Fn 7> returns to the X
session.
How do I trouble shoot this?
