The ``Q'' in SQL is ``Query'', not update, like the ``B'' in
BASIC is ``Beginners'' -- it was never intended for Real Work(tm).

I hope you aren't referring to the Sleepycat Berkeley DB routines
as decent.  The are probably the worst case of spaghetti code I
have ever seen.  Look at the #ifn*defs in the perl and python
bsddb support, many of which depend not on only o major version
number, but minor as well.
