Brother Printer

Well, fuddgetta about it.

I downloaded the drivers from the brother web page. I
am not sure what they really do yet, except set up some
configuration files for the printer. I couldn't find any
instructions for using the software on the website or
with the downloaded software. The configuration files are
easily found by just following the clues in printcap and
/var/lpd. (I use lprng) After much farting around, I found
the configuration program it had installed in /usr/bin.

By searching the world wide web under:

     brprintconflsr2 options

I went right to the brother webpage which explains how to
use the configuration software. I would not have found it
otherwise. Unlike my late, lamented lexmark z53, there is
no nice graphical interface, just an ugly command line,
but, at least this printer will be just as configurable
as my lexmark was. That is a huge relief. It seems to be
100% compatible with linux. That is to say, I don't see
any functions yet which are supported in windows and not
in linux, but, I am still learning.

So far, this has been the easiest printer yet to install
in linux, mainly due to the fact that it understands
postscript.
