Unfortunately, there isn't a "One size fits all" solution, and it may
completely depend on your needs.
I've been in an ERP kick, with Adempiere and OpenBravo leading up the
top of the pack. The installation of both are rather straight
forward, however, with Adempiere, it was a Java based client first,
and a web UI second, but with OpenBravo it was always a Web-based
application. The reporting is rather strong on both Adempiere as well
as OpenBravo, however, the learning curve for both of them can be
extremely steep -- I'm working on at least my 12th or 13th hour just
getting things like my Chart of Accounts and internal structure set up
with OpenBravo. You can edit the template companies if you like, but
I really think that you learn more about the system, and how it works,
if you talk with your accountant, learn what he needs in order to make
sure that he's not killing your pocket (or you) during tax season, and
build your system from there on out with your business practices in
mind.

Solving site load issues with database replication is a lot like
solving your own personal problems with heroin -- at first, it sorta
works, but after a while things just get out of hand.
