Ken,
If another user works fine then it's almost certainly a problem with a
configuration file in the home directory for the user in question. I would do
a `ls -al` to try and identify the configuration file or directory. I'm not
familiar with the applications in question but it seems curious that three
app's would behave in the same fashion while others, work normally. It would
seem that they have some configuration file in common. (I think you'll find
the configuration files for firefox in the .mozilla directory.)
