I don't know about Ubuntu, but I've run dual boot Vista on my desktop
for a year or more, and there were never any problems. Vista responds
to the standard grub boot sequence, namely

title Windows Vista (sda1)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
