I'm ambivalent about SuSE. I too detest the Novell/M$ capitulation, but
I still have a soft spot for SuSE.
My first successful install was SuSE 6.1, and 6.4 was a really good
distro, with an excellent book.
I too found SuSE 10's install a bit bewildering, but the key is to set
all of your install options, e.g. bootloader, in the extended
configuration menu before cutting loose with the actuall installation.
And one big reason keeps my interest in SuSE alive; it is, today, the
only Linux that will provide a 100% compatible running environment for
my favorite word processor - WP 8 - even in the 64-bit version.
