I've thought this all along of both Gnome and KDE. I recommend new
users try both, but both fight me in the same ways as Windows always
did. I've always just figured it was me as my first GUI was mwm, so
I've never gotten used to the way Windows (and now Gnome and KDE)
don't work (at least, they never worked for me).

Not having used it, I can't say much here. I just like the way Debian
does network setup in /etc/network/interfaces. Clean, simple, works
w/ IPv4, IPv6, bridges, you name it (but I do all my changes in vi).
