I think it depends on whether you want to have a brand-name desktop or 
you want to build it by yourself. For a brand-name, you can go to their 
web site and select a good-looking one with enough cpu power that you 
need. Yesteerday I looked at Sun 's desktops. They also support Linux 
and looks very nice.

If you want to build it, then there are several web sites that do all 
the benchmark on components. Check those sites and select the components 
you like. Personally, I like tomshardware.com. Or you can go to 
newegg.com and see customer's reviews on components.

In either case, you can easily spend a lot if you want to get the top ones.
