Many thanks to all in the list for the very informative answers to my
virtualisation question and also re the serial card and modem
that 10.3 openSUSE was not seeing. To make it easier on myself I waited
till this weekend and downloaded openSUSE 11.0 beta1.
installed it kernel (2.6.25) and now I am back on the net with linux.
Seeing that it is the first beta there is only one apparent, at the
moment, fix needed
with my rig and thats the Nvidia 8600 GT card software: I did download
what appeared to be suitable drivers i.e. Linux 64 but
they had to be run with sh. That fine but got an error saying the they
were only suitable for x86 systems and mine was not recognised !!!
They were supposedly AMD 64 drivers but mine is intel 64 quad, afaik
thats still x86 ? could not see anything else so assume a bug in
the beta.
Next job is to install VMware do I need workstation or that GSX server,
comments please: did see and download that vmware converter.
