nvidia driver causing system freeze?

Hi All,

A colleague of mine is working with an Nvidia driver
(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1) built against Mandrake 10.1 with a 2.6.12
kernel.  When he boots the system and brings up X, everything is fine
and the X logs show success.  If he kills the X server, then starts it
again the system freezes (no remote logging in - complete hung).  He
says the driver fails to load the GLX extension.

My colleague read that upgrading the BIOS might help, but I thought to
ask this forum.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
