ATI RADEON 59250 video card?

I/ve a 17 year old grandson in Kilgore, TX who tells me hi9s video card
in a Dell box is a Radeon 59250.  I googled that, but get only a 
Radeon 9250.  Anyway I tried to install an Ubuintu disto this summer for
him and it wouldn't go.  Also tried a Caldera eDesktop 4 years ago on
the same machine when we were down there for his big brother's high
school graduation and it wouldn't take.  It is a Dell motherboard ??.
He just told me he tried to run Ubuntu 7.04 live disk and it crashes.
Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong?  He's running Windoze xp on
it.

Any help greatly appreciated.  Could possibly have a convert.
