For what it's worth a more knowledgeable friend than I downloaded a
Gateway Intel BIOS for me a few years ago and put it to my box, VOILA!!
It worked. But, as you, I'm scared as hell to try it by myself.  As for
his knowledge, he was using a three legged fruit ladder to clean his
very high gutters, got his feet tangled while climbing down, fell and
killed himself?
