Problems with CDROM installing on ThinkPad 600

No I haven't.  I've always been very nervous about trying to
update BIOS/firmware as it seems to me that it could turn a
generally working machine into a rather ugly paper weight.

At this point I don't have any serious need for this machine so
am trying various options to see what will install on it.
