I haven't had any requirement to run anything under Windows since I started
using OS X about five years ago. The only thing I used Windows for prior
to that was TurboTax which runs nicely on the Mac. I have Microsoft Office
2004 for Mac for those rare occassions when OpenOffice.org won't handle a
Microsoft binary attachment.

As for OCR, I use Readiris for that on the Mac, a version being included in
the free software from HP for my ScanJet, although I bought the commercial
version. One thing I really like about Readiris is that it handles OCR of
PDF files nicely.

I do have one machine on the shelf that I use on those rare occassions when
I need to burn EPROMs, a 16MhZ Tandy 4000 running DRDOS (this was my first
Xenix machine in 1987 :-)
