man cdrecord on my system gets me the man page for wodim -- the
replacement for cdrecord. A quick grep for ATA showed me exactly what
you needed to know about using IDE devices.
Either your distro is woefully outdated or is not maintaining
cdrecord/wodim. If I were you, I'd either update or find a more
up-to-date distro than Caldera ;-)
